Art Showcase is re-opened for submissions

November 2, 2010 in Alerts, Help Files and FAQ

Art Showcase submissions were down because of technical issues, but have been re-opened. If you tried to submit your work to Art Showcase from 10/25/2010-11/1/2010, please re-submit it. Because the system was down, we probably didn’t receive the submission.

Why is my profile page link broken?

October 22, 2010 in Help Files and FAQ

In an effort to make member profile links shorter and easier to post to other social networks, we’ve changed “members” in user profile links, to “id”. I have installed an automatic redirect, so you shouldn’t have to worry about changing your already posted links, but in case you get any broken links to your profile page, I wanted to post this notice.

Example

OLD link: http://www.myfantasyart.com/members/myusername

NEW link: http://www.myfantasyart.com/id/myusername

What size images should I upload?

June 11, 2010 in Help Files and FAQ

Optimally, images should be in JPEG format before uploading to MyFantasyArt.com. Do not upload GIF format images because the system will not create quality thumbnails for them.

For the best presentation, your images should be 72 DPI (Dots Per Inch), with a maximum Pixel size of 900 Wide and 1500 in Height. You should generally size your art by the Width proportion, unless you have an extremely vertical image, even if the Height is slightly larger than 1500 Pixels.

Any images larger than these dimensions will be resized automatically. However, keep in mind that the system does not optimize the presentation of your images, so for the best results use a program such as Adobe Photoshop, Apple iPhoto, Photoshop Elements, Adobe Fireworks, or some similar application to resize your images before uploading them to MyFantasyArt.com.

The maximum file size for all uploaded images is 3 MB.

Where should I upload my art work?

June 9, 2010 in Help Files and FAQ

There are two main places to upload your art work to at MyFantasyArt.com.

  1. Your “Album” is located within the User Profile area. You can access the “Album” by either clicking on your Avatar or your Username anywhere on the website, and then clicking the “Album” tab, or by using the “My Account” drop-down menu at the very top of every page, and then selecting the “Album” sub-menu. CLICK HERE for detailed instructions on how to add images to your “Album”. The “Album” is where you should upload all of your work in order to create a portfolio.
  2. In order to give artists a chance to get discovered easier by potential clients, collectors and fans, we also have an Art Showcase, where you can upload what you consider your best work. While we make an effort to solicit submissions at times, Art Showcase is open to every member of MyFantasyArt.com. Feel free to submit by going to myfantasyart.com/showcase and simply clicking on the “Submit Work” link to the left, located just under the section links. Upload your work when prompted and add a Caption and Your User Name. Art Showcase is not meant to replace your “Album” and you should upload your work to both places. Art Showcase is moderated and there’s no guarantee that all of your submitted work will be selected for display.

Why upload images to two places?

The reason you should upload your images to both your “Album” and the Art Showcase is because the purpose of the Art Showcase is to help people discover your work. Once they do, they will click on your Username to visit your Member Profile. That is the place they will want to see a complete selection of your work, so it should be complete, including Showcase work and all the rest of your portfolio.

Can I just upload my images to the Art Showcase?

Art Showcase is moderated and there’s no guarantee that all of your submitted work will be selected for display. If you only submit work to the Art Showcase, when a visiter clicks on your Username, they will see an empty “Album”, which may cause confusion.

Can I use BBCode when writing Forum Topics within Groups?

June 6, 2010 in Help Files and FAQ

Yes, you can use BBCode when writing Forum Topics or replying to Forum Topics in Groups.

Bulletin Board Code or BBCode is a lightweight markup language used to format posts on many popular message boards. Tags are usually indicated by square brackets surrounding a keyword, and they are parsed by the message board system before being translated into a markup language that web browsers understand, usually HTML or XHTML.

Below are some examples of BBCode:

[ b ] bolded text [ /b ]
[ i ] italicized text [ /i ]
[ u ] underlined text [ /u ]
[ url ] http://example.org [ /url ]
[ url=http://example.com ] Example [ /url ]
[ img ] http://www.link-to-your-image.com/images/file.jpg[ /img ]
[ quote ] quoted text [ /quote ]

For more information on BBCode, visit this Wikipedia article HERE.
