First character and environment revealed for Girl Fight

March 2, 2012 in Gaming, Media Images

Kung Fu Factory and Microprose today revealed the first character in their upcoming all-female digital fighting game, Girl Fight, launching soon for both Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation Network. As the first of several, this reveal goes into the back story of the strong, intelligent and supremely powerful Wrench, Girl Fight’s “tank” class – deliberate move-sets that deal devastating damage.

Wrench is the most brilliant mind the world has ever seen. She entered MIT at the age of 15 and graduated at 19 with a triple major in electrical engineering, computer science, and physics. She changed the world by developing a method for safely fusing atomic nuclei and has advanced almost every field of medicine with advanced surgical inventions.

In 2012, she was awarded the Nobel Prize for her multitude of contributions to the fields of science, energy, medicine, and military transport. However, in order to accomplish so many things by the age of 26, she has sacrificed every other aspect of her life – a decision that she will soon come to regret.

She is entirely unaware that an organization operating from the shadows plans to use one of her own inventions against her…

As with each character in Girl Fight, Wrench has her own “home” arena in which to decimate her opponents. Mech Battle is like a cross between the ultimate gear head garage and a post-apocalyptic mech battle zone and features an intricately detailed, dynamic metallic background.

An arcade-style 3D fighting game in which players battle physically and metaphysically, Girl Fight allows players to choose from an array of sexy fighters to battle their way out of The Foundation, a shadowy, scientific organization looking to weaponize the psionic fighting abilities of the cast of gorgeous, all-female fighters. With a wide range of fighters and styles to choose from, arenas from across the world to fight in and tons of unlockables and customization options, Girl Fight offers retail-level bang for digital download bucks.

Check out the character and environment screenshots for Girl Fight, below.

Telltale Games reveals brand new concept art and Playing Dead Show for The Walking Dead Game

February 16, 2012 in Gaming, Media Images

Telltale Games and Eisner Award-winning writer & creator of The Walking Dead Robert Kirkman, announced that the first episode of Playing Dead, a new online talk show discussing the upcoming Walking Dead Game, is now live and available to view on the games’ official website, which also debuted today at telltalegames.com/walkingdead.

Based on Robert Kirkman’s groundbreaking comic book series, The Walking Dead Game is an episodic Adventure Horror game series set during the same apocalyptic period witnessed by Sheriff Rick Grimes. Telling the story of a new group of survivors as they struggle to flee the horror of Atlanta and the surrounding communities consumed by the undead, The Walking Dead offers players the chance to experience the very first days of the apocalypse, meeting people and participating in events that intersect with the story seen in the comic books.

Playing Dead is an online talk show that takes fans behind the scenes to reveal what has gone into making the game. Hosted by AJ LoCascio (the voice of Marty McFly in Telltale’s Back to the Future: The Game series), the nine-part show will feature guests including The Walking Dead creator/writer Robert Kirkman and The Book of Eli screenwriter Gary Whitta, consultant for the game.

After a 24-hour period of exclusivity on the official website, Playing Dead will also be available to watch on YouTube, iTunes and soon after, other online outlets including Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network.

“Collaborating with Telltale on The Walking Dead continues to be a fantastic process. They understand the world and the characters that I created and what it takes to make a game out of them. What’s really exciting is that they’re telling a new story with new characters, so you’ll get to see the same world Rick Grimes did, but now from a different point of view,” said The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. “Playing Dead is going to be an awesome way for fans to learn about the game and how it was made. It makes sense that Telltale are talking to people in this unique way because The Walking Dead is going to be a unique zombie game.”

The Walking Dead is a five part episodic Adventure Horror game that will be available for digital download beginning in spring of 2012 for all major gaming platforms.

Telltale also released 3 new screenshots from the game, which you can view below, highlighting the game’s distinctive visuals, inspired by the work of The Walking Dead comic book artist Charlie Adlard. I’ve also included concept art and screenshots that were released at San Diego Comic-Con 2011.

McFarlane Toys to create figures to coincide with Halo 4 release

January 20, 2012 in Figure and Collectibles Previews, Gaming

This fall, Microsoft Studios and 343 Industries are releasing Halo 4, the highly anticipated game expected to be one of the top entertainment launches of 2012. McFarlane Toys has announced that its best-selling line of Halo action figures continues this fall as well, with figures from Halo 4.

Halo 4 brings back the most popular character of the Halo universe, the Master Chief, and kicks off an all-new trilogy of games. Dubbed the “Reclaimer Trilogy” by 343 Industries, the new games explore the characters of the Master Chief and Cortana, expand the Halo fiction in bold new ways and bring even more of the innovation that the Halo series is known for to the gaming world. McFarlane Toys’ Halo 4 action figures bring the all-new characters, weapons and vehicles of Halo 4 to game fans and collectors worldwide.

The Halo 4 figure series continues in the 6-inch size introduced with their Halo: Reach figures. They’re also introducing a series of larger, boxed figures. These deluxe items are in scale with their 6-inch figures, but include larger accessories, such as Master Chief’s Cryotube.

McFarlane Toys is part of a select group of licensees with Halo 4 products available at game launch. Halo 4 Series 1 kicks off this August with four carded figures and one boxed figure set, and expands to include more figures later in the fall.

Todd promises, “343 still has some surprises to reveal, so we can’t give you all the details just yet. But we’ve seen what they’re working on, and Halo 4 will be worth the wait!”

Meanwhile, there’s more Halo figure news out of McFarlane Toys, today. The company will introduce their sixth line of action figures and vehicles from the blockbuster video game, Halo: Reach, starting in February 2012. You can see a gallery of images from the figure series below, which includes:

Jun (Unhelmeted)
The Noble Team Spartans of Halo: Reach, unlike Master Chief, are seen both with their helmets and without. This new, alternate version of Noble Three brings back Jun with his unhelmeted appearance. Figure includes his signature Sniper Rifle and a Frag Grenade.

Kat (Unhelmeted)
The Noble Team Spartans of Halo: Reach, unlike Master Chief, are seen both with their helmets and without. This new, alternate version of Noble Two brings back Kat with her unhelmeted appearance. Figure includes her signature Magnum and a Frag Grenade.

Brute Major
The fearsome Jiralhanae, better known as Brutes, dominate the battlefield with their raw strength and savagery. Only those warriors who have proven themselves in battle may earn the right to wear the distinctive gold armor of the Major class. Figure comes with Spike Rifle and Plasma Grenade.

Elite Zealot
The Covenant dispatch Elite advance teams to hunt down artifacts of value to their religion. Such teams are small, nimble, and almost always Zealot-class. Our latest Elite figure features the unique armor and maroon color of the Sangheili Zealot. Figure comes with Concussion Rifle and Plasma Grenade.

Sabre Pilot
When the planet Reach was threatened by a Covenant supercarrier, Noble Team initiated the daring Operation: UPPER CUT to take it down. Noble Six and Jorge took the lead, but they couldn’t have succeeded without the assistance of the brave Sabre pilots of Echo Team. Our Sabre Pilot figure features the simple blue flightsuit and enclosed helmet of the UNSC Air Force — essential for the cramped cockpit conditions and proximity to the vacuum of space. Figure comes with DMR.

Spartan Hazop (Male) (Rust)
Some operations are considered hazardous even for a fully armored Spartan. These ops call for the specialized HazOp armor set. This Spartan features the Hazardous Operations helmet and shoulders, orange “rust” paint, and includes a Focus Rifle and a Plasma Grenade. Exclusive to Toys “R” Us.

Spartan Recon (Male) (Team Red)
Developed in ONI’s Beta-5 Division Ordnance Testing Facility, the Recon armor was intended to offer stealth capabilities with little or no loss of endurance. This figure comes with matching Recon helmet, shoulders, and chestplate; is painted in bright “team one” red; and includes the intimidating Rocket Launcher weapon and a Frag Grenade. Available at Target, Walmart, and GameStop.

Spartan JFO (Male) (White)
The Joint Fires Observer helmet is reserved for Spartans of Lieutenant Colonel rank and above. Figure comes with matching JFO helmet and shoulders, white armor, a Plasma Grenade, and an all-new weapon: the devastating Target Locator. Exclusive to Walgreens.

Not enough Halo news for you? Well you’ll be excited to hear that this fall, McFarlane Toys, Xbox LIVE, and 343 Industries are joining forces to bring Halo fans an all-new series of unique collectibles: Halo Avatars. While our standard 6-inch figures are based on the Halo video games themselves, Halo Avatars are based on the stylized representations of the Halo characters that are available on the Xbox 360 console itself.

First introduced in 2008, avatars are the online representation of a gamer’s Xbox LIVE profile. Players can select from thousands of unique bodies, hairstyles, clothing, and accessories to create their own custom character. Through the online marketplace, gamers can add themed avatar gear from dozens of video game licenses, including Halo. From Halo-themed t-shirts, to Spartan helmets, to full suits of character armor, gamers can make their avatars look like true Halo fans, or even characters from the Halo universe.

Lastly, McFarlane Toys expands its long-running, best-selling line of Halo collectibles this fall, with the addition of Halo Micro Ops. This all-new series consists of miniature figures, vehicles, and locations from the entire Halo universe, at roughly 1:100/15mm scale.

Check out a gallery of the figures from the upcoming Halo: Reach Series Six, which hits stores next month.

Using cutting-edge technology, you’re trapped in a nightmare-world of zombies, monsters and hellish scientists – the only way out is to fight.

Rise of Nightmares is available exclusively on Kinect for Xbox 360.
